Very well said, Tia. I think all too often we hold public figures up to standards higher than those we hold ourselves to and while in a way we should, they too are real and this is comforting to me. It is worth so much to me that a person would persevere in the achievement of their goals despite personal stumbles rather than to bow out because of them. To me, heroic people are "real" and although Ted Kennedy was larger than life, his "realness" overshadowed that to me and he is definitely one of my heroes.

Shannon,
This is lovely, Your Uncle Chuck would have enjoyed reading it. I'm going to print it out, if that is ok with you, and save for his grandsons to read some day when they start asking questions like What was papa like and tell me about papa. This will be one more story to tell. Thank you.

This from Ethan's Uncle Jim, a resident of Milwaukee:

"A recent article gave (gulp) the Chicago Worlds Fair credit for the invention of frozen custard. However, I don't know if they were referring to the Columbian Exposition in 1893 or the fair in 1933, but I think it was the former. The story was that it was brought back to Milwaukee where it became an institution. I don't buy the Coney Island connection; 1) NY claims everything and 2) if it was invented there, it would have stayed there. There are now frozen custard places on the East Coat - Obama just took the kids to one in VA operated by a transplanted Wisconsinite, daughter of a former congressman - but, in general, custard refers to soft-serve ice cream (or what we would call ice milk due to the lowered fat content) on the EC."

My dogs loved their Jolly Ball. However, I didn't pay for it... It just showed up in our yard after the snowmelt one year. I had no idea they cost that much (I wonder who the stole it from?).

Looks like Blogs are one of the outlets for Journalism in the future. Anybody and everybody can have a Blog and anyone can read it. The trick for a journalist is to figure out how to make money from it!

I hope News Papers and magazines don’t all go away. I don’t want to live in a world where I have to go online to get news. I want to be able to read the paper on Sunday without going online!
